Your step-by-step implant journey
Consultation — £49
Nigel will examine your teeth and gums, take X-rays, and discuss all your treatment options. You’ll leave with a written treatment plan including full costs and timescales — no obligation to proceed.
Implant placement
The titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. Most patients are genuinely surprised by how comfortable this stage is — it typically takes around an hour.
Healing & integration
Over 3–6 months, the implant fuses naturally with your jawbone (osseointegration). A temporary tooth can often be fitted during this period so you’re never without a smile.
Your new crown — final result
Your custom-made crown is fitted to complete your implant. From this point forward, clean and care for it exactly like a natural tooth. With proper maintenance, it can last a lifetime.

A single dental implant is made up of three components: The titanium screw that is placed in to the jawbone, an abutment that fits within the titanium screw and a dental crown that is fitted over the abutment.

Meet our Dental Implant Dentist Nigel Reynolds
GDC No 62551
Nigel qualified at Cardiff University in 1987 and has worked at our practice since 2018 providing oral surgery and dental implant treatments for our independent dental patients.
With a wealth of experience in implant dentistry and studying around the world, he shares his time between a number of different dental practices, as dental implant work is not as common compared to general dentistry.
As well as working at a number of practices, Nigel teaches Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons, where he studied himself and is an assessor and marker for their diploma course.
Nigel has a number of academic accolades. He studied for his Bachelor of Dentistry at Cardiff University, and then did a Masters in Implant Clinician in Los Angeles. He also has diplomas in both Restorative Dental Practice and Implant Dentistry and an MSc in Implant Dentistry.

Does getting a dental implant hurt?
The placement is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. Most patients are surprised by how little discomfort they experience. Some soreness and mild swelling afterwards is normal and is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Nigel will guide you on what to expect at every stage.
Am I a suitable candidate for dental implants?
Most adults in good general health are suitable for dental implants. Key factors include sufficient jawbone density, healthy gums, and your general medical history. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking can affect healing. Your suitability will be fully assessed at your £49 consultation, and Nigel will discuss all available options with you if implants aren’t the right fit.
How long does the full implant process take?
From initial consultation to fitting your final crown, the process typically takes 4–9 months. The longest part is the healing phase after placement, during which the implant fuses with your jawbone. A temporary tooth can usually be provided during this period so you’re comfortable throughout
How long do dental implants last?
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, the titanium implant post can last a lifetime. The crown fitted on top may need replacing after 15–20 years through normal wear. This makes implants one of the most cost-effective long-term tooth replacement options available.
What happens if I don't replace a missing tooth?
+ Leaving a gap after an extraction can cause surrounding teeth to shift over time, affect your bite and facial structure, and lead to progressive bone loss in the jaw. Replacing the tooth sooner preserves your oral health and typically makes the implant process more straightforward.
Can I have an implant if I've had bone loss?
In some cases, yes — a bone graft may be possible to build up the area before placing the implant. Our CBCT scanner allows us to assess bone quality and quantity in detail, giving Nigel a clear picture of your options before any treatment begins. This will be discussed fully at your consultation.
