What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a procedure used to remove infection from inside a tooth. Deep inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When this tissue becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, trauma, cracks or repeated dental procedures, treatment is needed to prevent the infection from spreading. During root canal treatment, the infected tissue is carefully removed, the root canals are cleaned and disinfected, and the tooth is sealed to protect it from further infection. In many cases, root canal treatment can save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
